Accept Online Payments

Take Payments Online - Accept Online Payments.
3rd party payment processors and Merchant providers reviewed. If you have found this page, you are probably in the process of starting an online store. We at animateddesigns.co.uk have great experience with online stores and will hopefully save some of you getting scammed for your hard earned cash. If you can, we would advise you speak to your bank manager about getting proper merchant facilities. As alot of the online payment gateways vanish with peoples funds.

Third Party Payment Processors

When starting an online store you will probably be on a low budget. The advantage third party payment processors have is the low start up costs and your account is often activated instantly. Fees are typycally around 4-5% per transaction. The disadvantages are often poor customer service and some offer very little protection against chargebacks. Companies like Paypal and Stormpay also feel they have the right to suspend accounts at will and they will do everything they can to hold onto funds.

PayPal - probably the most famous, but their customer service department is the worst around. Great to use when things are going good. But as soon as PayPal decides to close your account for no reason your business will suffer. Even having a payment from a dubious customer, that Paypal`s anti-fraud measures are there to root out can lead to suspension/closure of your account. Alot of websites are springing up to expose PayPal. As used by the BNP, KKK and countless other racist/hate websites.

Stormpay - Scampay, sorry Stormpay is one to be avoided at all costs. The 'Better Business Bureau' in their Home State in the USA reports having more complaints about Stormpay than any other company in recent years. According to a legal firm under contract with the SEC, the digital money balance visible in one's StormPay account is not backed up by money in StormPay's bank accounts. This led to a situation in early 2006 where Stormpay was not able to pay out withdrawals requested by users, and many of the users never received their requested funds. To date, StormPay has not released the funds it froze back in February 2006, despite StormPay's Terms of Service providing for such funds to be distributed 180 days after being frozen. As a result, many (former) users hold a hostile attitude towards StormPay. Stormpay still has nearly $2000 of ours and they deleted our account details. Cease and Desist Order

Nochex - Nochex.com is the most popular UK 3rd party payment proccessor. They provide good customer service and they have decent anti fraud policies in place. You dont need to join to send payments under £99. The only downside is they are UK only.

Moneybookers - They have improved a great deal of late, with regards to their customer service. Becoming popular due to their support of the 'Gaming' Industry. Not many customers use their service at present, but things can only get better.

E Gold - Great idea in theory. Popular with the pyramid scheme websites. I have an account myself, but I wont keep much funds in it for a while. Wait and see how this one develops.

E-bullion - Due to numerous unanswered complaints, the Global Digital Currencies Association would like consumers and merchants to be aware that E-bullion.com closes and/or freezes accounts without any court order or reasonable justification, sometimes freezing customer funds forever. This unscrupulous policy makes E-bullion an unfavorable system for online commerce and for the safe and secure storage and transfer of funds. We recommend that E-bullion account holders switch to a different digital currency immediately in order to avoid frozen accounts and loss of funds

Merchant Account Providers

Internet Merchant accounts enable online processing of credit cards. Online merchant accounts are variations of the traditional credit card processing used by retail stores and phone order businesses. A business must qualify for a merchant account and new businesses/sole traders may have problems aquiring one. As each provider has a different set of requirements, it can be difficult and expensive for some companies to get merchant accounts directly from banks.

You may also require a Processing gateway. Processing gateways are an intermediary to get the card information from your stores shopping cart to the merchant account. Processing gateways are often packaged with merchant accounts. With any merchant account you are responsible for costly fraudulent activities and charge backs from your customers. Protect yourself through disclaimers and other legal instruments. It is also wise to get proof of delivery for all items shipped.

Widford.Net - Offshore Merchant Account provider. Very bad customer service! Late payment of funds to merchants!
Use at your peril!

Worldpay - WorldPay enable thousands of businesses to accept payments on the internet, by phone, fax or mail. Credit and debit cards, bank transfers and instalments. In any language and most currencies. All through one merchant account, one payment processing system.

Nochex Merchant Accounts - They now offer Merchant Accounts to UK Businesses. They would be a good first choice for startups. A complete ‘top end’ payment service for small to medium size online businesses. This account is designed for larger scale online traders who will be processing high numbers of transactions (in excess of £1,000 per month). Accept and process all major credit and debit card payments. Real UK customer service who you can reach by phone.

Metacharge - Great anti-fraud measures. But the fees are alot higher than what others offer. When we used them they did not seem to have much influence with the Merchant Bank in Germany. We would not advise our clients use them as there are many better deals in the UK, but they might be right for you.

We were excited to learn that EveryBlock co-founder Daniel X. O'Neil was working with Harper Reed of Threadless fame to develop a new online gadget - but it's not the hyper-local t-shirt you might immediately presume (pretty please?). Instead, the pair produced a new city government transparency toy: CityPayments . And it's likely to be all the rage among us reporters as it gathers momentum. But ...
